  • Motion reference: S6M-11279

That the Parliament congratulates Michelle Carruthers MBE on her 21-year service to the charity Food Train, in light of the announcement of her retiring as the organisation's chief executive; notes that Food Train carries out a range of work to support older people across Scotland, including food shopping and delivery services, meal-sharing services, befriending initiatives and other support services to help older people live and eat well in their own homes; recognises that Michelle, a former nurse, was the charity's first full-time employee when she joined the then fully voluntary organisation in July 2002 as its development officer, when, it understands, it was based in a tiny backroom office in Kirkcudbright Town Hall; understands that it has expanded from being based in the Dumfries area to now operating across Scotland, helping 3,500 older people, employing 59 staff and enjoying the support of 1,600 dedicated volunteers; notes that the charity opened its first home of its own in Dumfries town centre in 2022 under Michelle's leadership; thanks Michelle for her service to Food Train; recognises the significant positive benefit that her work has brought to countless older people across Scotland, and wishes her a long and happy retirement when she retires in March 2024.
