Borders Butcher Awarded for Best Steak Pies in South East Scotland

  • Submitted by: Rachael Hamilton, Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 03 November 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-11072

That the Parliament congratulates J M Quality Meats in St Boswells for beating off stiff competition and winning the best traditional steak pie accolade at the Scottish Craft Butchers Awards; understands that the extraordinary steak pie recipe by the new owner, Ian Hogg, and master butcher, Colin Ward, wowed the judges, coming top in the south east region, against 100 other traditional steak pies; further understands that awards for the traditional steak and speciality pies are usually judged every two years, but that this is the first time that this award has been awarded in four years because of the COVID-19 pandemic; notes that the St Boswells butcher also won gold for its Wagyu steak pie and silver for its steak and haggis pie, and wishes the team at the butchers in St Boswells continued success at future Scottish Craft Butchers Awards.
