Carers Week 2023

  • Submitted by: Clare Adamson, Motherwell and Wishaw, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 04 May 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-08775

That the Parliament welcomes Carers Week, which takes place between 5 and 11 June 2023; recognises that the week is an annual campaign that raises awareness of caring, highlights the challenges that unpaid carers face and recognises the contribution that carers make to families and communities across Scotland; understands that many of the estimated 800,000 carers in Scotland do not recognise themselves as carers, even though they have caring responsibilities for friends and family members, and do not access the support and benefits that are available, such as Carer's Allowance and Carer's Allowance Supplement; commends all carers for what it sees as their dedication and selfless acts, and encourages them to apply for Social Security Scotland’s new Carer Support Payment, which is due to be piloted by the end of 2023, when it becomes available.
