That the Parliament recognises, with sadness, that 30 April 2023 marks the 33rd anniversary of the Shackleton plane crash on the Isle of Harris; understands that, on 30 April 1990, a Royal Air Force (RAF) Avro Shackleton AEW Mk II aircraft of No. 8 Squadron RAF, based out of RAF Lossiemouth, crashed into the top of Maodal, a hill just north of the village of Northton, while on its way to land at RAF Benbecula; further understands that all 10 crew members aboard the plane, which included the wing commander in charge of No. 8 Squadron, tragically lost their lives in the crash; pays tribute to the Mountain Rescue Team that dealt with the aftermath of the crash, as well as the police, coastguard and people from North Harris, who assisted at the crash site over those days; praises the people of Harris for their compassion and for continuing to commemorate this tragic event; notes that a new commemorative cairn and memorial plaque will be unveiled at Northton on the weekend of the anniversary; expresses thanks to the Harris Voluntary Service for organising this event and other commemorative events, and to Western Isles Lifestyle Lottery for its help with funding, and sends its best wishes to the families of those lost in the crash.
