That the Parliament recognises that the month of March is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month; believes that a worryingly low number of women are aware of ovarian cancer symptoms; notes that nearly 600 women are diagnosed with the condition each year in Scotland, and understands that only 23% of women are able to name bloating as a symptom of ovarian cancer; encourages everyone to be aware of the key symptoms, which are bloating, pelvic pain or abdominal pain, loss of appetite and urinary symptoms; considers that there is a need for a national awareness campaign regarding the symptoms of the condition; urges women who may be concerned to contact their GP, and commends the work of Target Ovarian Cancer in supporting women, and their families, who are diagnosed and living with ovarian cancer in Scotland.
