  • Date lodged: Thursday, 12 January 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-07476

That the Parliament congratulates Perthshire author, Jess Smith, who was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the 2023 New Year Honours list in recognition of her work; understands that Jess Smith was born in Aberfeldy, and has spent her life’s work advancing justice for the Scottish traveller community; notes that Jess Smith’s achievements have included lodging a successful petition at Holyrood, which successfully won the right to have Tinker’s Heart of Argyll, the old wedding place of travellers, recognised as a scheduled monument by Historic Environment Scotland, and wishes Jess Smith all the best for the future.
