Funding for the Scottish Men’s Sheds Association

  • Submitted by: Alex Rowley, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 15 December 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-07252

That the Parliament is concerned by the Scottish Government’s reported decision to stop all statutory funding for the Scottish Men’s Sheds Association from 2023; recognises what it sees as the crucial work that the Scottish Men’s Sheds Association does in combatting social isolation and loneliness, creating community spaces for men, with more than 190 open, and developing Men’s Sheds groups covering all 32 local authority areas in Scotland, and supports the Scottish Men’s Sheds Association’s call on the Scottish Government to provide stable, long-term funding so that it may continue the important work of providing social space for a hard-to-reach group, and create a start-up and development fund that new and existing Sheds can access to enable them to continue what it sees as their vital work.
