Horse Road Safety Campaign Launched in South Ayrshire

  • Submitted by: Sharon Dowey, South Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 30 September 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-06109

That the Parliament commends Turnberry’s Lynn Mullen on launching the horse road safety campaign, Pass Wide and Slow, in South Ayrshire; notes that the organised event took place on 24 September 2022, was open to horse riders, walkers and dogs and that participants left at 11.00 am for a walk around Maidens, Culzean and nearby Dunabie’s Caravan site; understands that everyone who attended was presented with high visibility clothing and rosette donated by local businesses in support of the campaign; notes that the aim is to echo the importance to motorists of passing with care around horse riders and vulnerable road users, such as walkers, cyclists and motorcyclists; understands that Lynn was prompted to take part in raising awareness of the campaign locally after her eight-year-old granddaughter had become frightened while out on her pony, when two vehicles had passed closely at high speed; applauds all participants who took part in the Pass Wide and Slow campaign ride, raising awareness of road safety, and wishes Lynn the very best of luck for a successful campaign.
