Gala Fairydean Rovers Striker, Zander Murray, Becomes First Scottish Senior Men’s Football Player to Come Out as Gay

  • Submitted by: Tess White, North East Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party
  • Date lodged: Friday, 30 September 2022
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-06075

That the Parliament commends Gala Fairydean Rovers striker, Zander Murray, who, it understands, recently became the first Scottish senior men’s football player to come out as gay; understands that the Lowland League player followed in the footsteps of Scottish Football Association referees, Craig Napier and Lloyd Wilson, who came out in the summer of 2022; notes that Zander has received widespread support from his teammates and the wider football community since the announcement, and applauds Zander for what it sees as him playing his part in breaking down barriers in men’s football as the sport seeks to become more open, inclusive, and diverse.
