That the Parliament highlights the work of the cleansing and recycling services of the City of Edinburgh Council; understands that cleansing and recycling services employ more than 700 people and operate a fleet of approximately 130 vehicles working around the clock to collect and process household waste; notes that over 240,000 homes are serviced by council cleansing services; understands that waste, which was formerly sent to landfill is now sent to a site at Millerhill where it is incinerated and food waste is processed in an anaerobic digestion plant to produce electricity and gas for municipal use; notes that the ash from the incineration process is taken away for reuse as bricks in the construction industry; believes that this facility is an example of the circular economy in action and demonstrates how Scotland can approach its Net Zero goals, and expresses its thanks to those working in the City of Edinburgh Council’s cleansing and recycling services for their hard work.
