UK Funding to Deliver Low Carbon Aviation Solution for the Highlands and Islands

  • Submitted by: Donald Cameron, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 26 July 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05497

That the Parliament welcomes the news that UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has guaranteed £9 million of funding towards plans to create a low-carbon aviation zone in the Highlands and Islands Region; understands that the Sustainable Aviation Test Environment (SATE) project is being led by Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd (HIAL); further understands that one of the long term aims of the project is to deliver a more sustainable form of air travel for people across the Highlands and Islands, which, it believes, will help Scotland meet its Net Zero targets; notes that trial flights have been carried out in Orkney involving a small hybrid electric plane, and wishes HIAL well in developing this innovate project.
