  • Submitted by: Edward Mountain, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 13 May 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-04363

That the Parliament acknowledges what it sees as the inspirational work of Dame Deborah James, “Bowelbabe”, who has campaigned over the past five years for more awareness of bowel cancer symptoms and funding for research; considers that the social media and podcast posts by Deborah not only inspire those who are suffering from bowel cancer, but also their partners; further considers that this has encouraged people to talk about bowel cancer; congratulates her charity, Bowelbabe, on raising over £4 million so far for the Bowelbabe Fund, working with Cancer Research UK to fund clinical trials and research into personalised medicine for cancer patients, and supporting campaigns to raise awareness of bowel cancer; notes that its thoughts and wishes are with Deborah and her family as her fight against bowel cancer comes to an end, and encourages all those who are able, as she requested, to donate the equivalent of raising a glass, to Bowelbabe.
