Scottish Chambers of Commerce Trade Ambassador to China Awarded Honorary Citizenship of Shandong

  • Submitted by: Dean Lockhart, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 02 December 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-02342

That the Parliament congratulates Dave Valentine on being awarded honorary citizenship of the Shandong province in China; understands that he is only the second ever Scot to receive the accolade; notes that this award is the highest honour that can be bestowed upon a foreigner by any provincial government in China and was granted by Mr Li Ganjie, the Governor of Shandong, in recognition of Dave’s longstanding dedication to building education, enterprise and people-to-people links between Shandong and Scotland; recognises what it sees as Dave’s vital role in the development of trade links and relationships between Scotland and China, and believes that he has been instrumental in winning a number of key contracts and orders for small and medium-sized businesses throughout Scotland, strengthening international trade links between the two nations, and in the recent Memorandum of Understanding between the Scottish Chambers of Commerce and the Shandong General Chamber of Commerce being agreed to further promote and strengthen the development of economic and trade relations and co-operation between the Chambers.
