To ask the Scottish Executive, further to the answer to question S4W-05263 by Bruce Crawford on 8 February 2012, whether it will address the specific issue raised in the question as to whether it will be possible for an independent Scotland to subsequently rejoin the United Kingdom if a majority of the Scottish people demands it.
Answer
I refer the member to the answer to question S4W-05263 on 8 February 2012. We are confident that a yes vote in the referendum will result in a stable and enduring position for Scotland amongst the independent nations of the world in the context of a continuing social union with the other nations of these islands.

To ask the Scottish Executive what plans it has to regenerate HMNB Clyde and the surrounding areas in a Scotland separated from the rest of the United Kingdom.
Answer
The Scottish Government’s proposal for Scotland is not “separation” but Independence, based on new relationships of equality to make our nation more successful and to improve the lives of the people who live in Scotland. Scottish ministers have provided a commitment to operate conventional naval forces from HMNB Clyde following independence. We believe that the Trident weapons system currently based on the Clyde is not sustainable morally, strategically or economically, and that the release of Scotland’s share of the costs of both running and replacing Trident, which equates to around £153 million in tax contributions each year plus a further estimated £85 million per year for 15 years, would support HMNB Clyde and the surrounding area.

To ask the Scottish Executive whether a Scotland separated from the rest of the United Kingdom will have its own Supreme Court.
Answer
<>The Scottish Government’s proposal for Scotland is not “separation”, but independence, with a new relationship of equality between Scotland and the other nations of these islands, and a voice in Europe and the wider world. The Scottish Government set out proposals for independence in its publication Your Scotland Your Voice published in 2009 (
http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2009/11/26155932/0). The comprehensive white paper on independence to be published in November 2013 will detail the positive platform for Scotland’s future on which Scottish voters will be asked to decide.
