To ask the Scottish Government, further to the answer to question S5W-03318 by Kevin Stewart on 17 October 2016, whether it will provide a breakdown of the offences committed by those people who were identified as homeless when entering prison in 2015-16.
Answer
The Scottish Government holds anonymised data from homelessness applications which is not linked to the database holding information on prisoners. Information on the homelessness status of prisoners is also not held centrally by the Scottish Prison Service.

To ask the Scottish Government how many former prisoners who are homeless on release go on to reoffend, broken down by (a) prison, (b) region and (c) local authority.
Answer
While Scottish Government collect data on those who have applied as homeless after release from prison, these are not held in a way which allows routine linkage with the reconvictions data held by Scottish Government.

To ask the Scottish Government how many people begin a prison sentence with a tenancy and how many are supported to keep their tenancy for when they leave prison.
Answer
I have asked Colin McConnell, Chief Executive of the Scottish Prison Service, to respond. His response is as follows:
Information on how many people begin a prison sentence with a tenancy and how many are supported to keep their tenancy for when they leave prison, is not centrally held by the Scottish Prison Service.
However, SPS ensure that through initial screening at both the induction and pre-release stage those requiring housing support are referred to housing support services.
