To ask the Scottish Government how many diagnoses there were of (a) diabetes, (b) cancer or tumours, (c) hypertension, (d) stroke or (e) multiple sclerosis as a result of an eye check in the last year for which information is available.
Answer
The information requested is not collected.
The Eyecare Integration Project, which was announced in September 2010, aims to deliver 95% of patient referrals from optometrists to hospital eye services electronically by April 2014. The project’s success factors include reduced waiting times from referral to treatment, and more effective use of hospital eye service resources.
Once the Eyecare Integration Project is fully rolled-out and in place it may be possible to collect this type of data.
