To ask the Scottish Government how it works with sportscotland and other partners to promote sporting pathways for young people so that aspiring athletes have the best chance of competing at major international events.
Answer
The spectacular success of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow shows that Scotland has a world class sporting system.
We continue to work with sportscotland to invest in school, club and community sport to provide the very best foundation for sporting excellence. We have already announced that up to £50 million will be invested in Active Schools between 2015 and 2019.
Building on this strong foundation in 2015-16 we are investing £24 million in a new National Performance Centre for Sport at Heriot-Watt University which will be a centerpiece of the world class sporting system.
