To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will submit a separate return for Scotland each year to the World Health Organizations European health for all database to allow adequate analysis of the health problems facing Scotland.
Answer
A selection of Scottish health information is currently included in the UK-level submission to the WHO European Health for All database. The Scottish Executive has separately commissioned work to publish the Scottish figures contained in the database. There are no current plans to pursue the possibility of Scotland separately submitting information directly to the World Health Organization (WHO) for the population of their European Health For All database.
The Scottish Executive considers that comparisons with health information for other countries is a vital part of understanding the health issues facing Scotland, and uses the WHO databases, along with a number of other sources, for a range of analysis to inform relevant policy and decision making.
