To ask the Scottish Executive what proportion of people aged 50 or over suffering a hip fracture receive an assessment in respect of the prevention of falls and the risk of osteoporosis in order to prevent a further fracture.
Answer
These figures are not heldcentrally.
A six month audit by the Scottish Hip Fracture Audit of rehabilitation services in 11 hospitals, whichstarted in April 2006, will include data on whether or not falls assessmentsand osteoporosis assessments are carried out within the patient’s initialperiod of acute or rehabilitative care.

In May 2005 thenew Scottish Survey of Achievement was introduced to provide an overview ofattainment levels based on a sample of pupils rather than on the whole pupilpopulation. The results of the 2005 survey are not yet available.

The exact number of people newlydiagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in Scotland is notavailable centrally.
However, national estimates of the numbers of people consulting for chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder since1999 are given in the table, based on the number of patients seen for the conditionin general medical practices participating in Practice Team Information (PTI).
