The Scottish Government is committed to supporting those that want to learn Gaelic and is keen to ensure there are excellent resources readily available to them.

There are many examples of online resources available to support Gaelic language learning. This includes: support for Gaelic early years; Gaelic school education; Gaelic adult education and much more.

Importantly, these resources are easily accessible. Learngaelic.net is a one-stop shop for Gaelic learners of every ability, from complete beginners to advanced learners. This website has received funding from the Scottish Government and has been developed by Bòrd na Gidhlig and MGAlba, working with the BBC. http://learngaelic.net/.

(b) The sample size for children is too small to allow analysis by deprivation for specific age groups. The following table – published as table 5.6 in the Scottish Health Survey 2009 annual report – provides figures for children aged 2-15 broken down by the Scottish Index of Deprivation quintiles. This is the Scottish Government’s preferred measure of deprivation.

The sample sizes for the two to four age group are relatively small and therefore the confidence intervals around these estimates are wide. Caution should be exercised in drawing any conclusions from these figures.

The Scottish Government will publish, before the end of 2012, the results of further analysis into the nature of section 74 incidents reported by the police to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service in 2011-12. This will include analysis of the religions targeted in the incidents, and commentary on the number of incidents proportionate to the size of religious populations in Scotland.

The following table below provides the number of hospital episodes where the main diagnosis was recorded as asthma, for the last five available financial years. Figures are shown by board of patient residence.

Figures are available only on a financial year basis. Since the start of the financial year 2007-08, over £57.7 million of financial support was provided or committed to support disabled children and their families.

There is also a wide range of policy work with the aim of supporting disabled children and their families.

In addition, there are a variety of funding streams dedicated to supporting all children and their families, from which disabled children will also benefit. For example, the Scottish Government funds a range of organisations to support those who have additional support needs overcome barriers to learning. This could be through direct support such as the Grant Aided Special Schools, who will receive £10.8 million in 2012-13, or through enhancing the capacity of the system to meet their needs.

Furthermore, in the financial years 2007-08 to 2010-11, £153.8 million was provided by local authorities in Scotland for care homes, homecare, daycare and equipment and adaptations for disabled children.

A list of the projects which have received funding from the Short Breaks Fund is available from the Scottish Parliament Information Centre (Bib. number 53987).

The following data is collected by the Enhanced Surveillance of Mycobacterium Infections (ESMI). For the purposes of data collection, prisons are categorised under “Corrective Facilities”, therefore the data provided may also include other corrective establishments. It should be noted that the data below does not necessarily imply that the infection was acquired in the facility.

Data for 2011 is currently is the process of being reconciled and is therefore not included in the following table. Data for years 2006-2010 is provided.

Note:*NHS boards with no reported cases are not included in the table.

It should also be noted that within the ESMI system, the response to this question is open to local interpretation.
