The information requested is given in the following table. These figures are provided on the same basis as the statistics of alcohol-related deaths published annually by National Records of Scotland. The figures for 2014 are provisional; final statistics for 2014 will be available in August 2015.

The preferred source for employment estimates by industry at local authority level is the Business Register and Employment Survey (BRES). The latest available data are for 2013 with results for 2014 due to be published by the Office for National Statistics in September 2015.

In 2013, there were 5,800 people working in the construction sector in Aberdeen City and 8,500 in Aberdeenshire.

These data are rounded to the nearest hundred. Estimates include all employee jobs within VAT/PAYE registered enterprises, and also working owners of VAT/PAYE registered enterprises. However, the employment jobs estimate does not include those that are self-employed in enterprises that are not registered for VAT/PAYE i.e. the smallest sole traders/partnerships.

Information on number of staff employed in colleges and universities is held by the Scottish Funding Council.

The latest information available is for 2013-14, however it is not possible to provide the staff breakdown requested. Table 1 contains headcount and full time equivalent information for teaching and non-teaching staff at North East Scotland College in 2013-14.

New business start-ups are measured using new business VAT/PAYE registration figures. Estimates of start-ups for 2014 are expected to be published by the Office for National Statistics in November 2015. The latest available figures for new business start-ups were published in November 2014 and are:

In 2013, there were 1,445 new business start-ups in the Aberdeen City local authority area and 1,395 new business start-ups in the Aberdeenshire local authority area.

The latest official statistics for enterprises operating in Scotland by local authority are available from the Scottish Government Businesses in Scotland 2014 publication. The publication shows that:

As at March 2014, there were 595 VAT/PAYE registered enterprises in the construction sector in Aberdeen City and 1,390 in Aberdeenshire. These data are taken from the Inter-Departmental Business Register and are rounded to the nearest five.

Estimates of the number of construction enterprises registered in 2015 will be available in November 2015.

Note that the registered enterprise count includes sole traders and partnerships as well as limited companies.

The number of eligible people in the NHS Grampian area who have taken part in the Scottish Bowel Screening Programme in the latest two calendar years available (up to 31 October 2013) is provided in table 1. Data up to 31 October 2014 will be available when the annual bowel screening key performance indicators report is being published in August 2015.

The Scottish Government is reassured that all NHS boards are reporting cleanliness standards above the 90% agreed national standard as outlined in the latest National Cleaning Compliance Report by Health Facilities Scotland:

NHS Grampian’s results have consistently been above 90% compliance against the agreed national standard.

NHS Grampian has, in the last six months, undergone two independent inspections by Healthcare Improvement Scotland. Neither of these inspections highlighted any issues with regard to hospital cleanliness.

The contract for the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route/Balmedie to Tipperty was awarded on 12 December 2014 to Aberdeen Roads Ltd following the shortest ever procurement process for a project of this size and complexity. Construction is now underway and the project is on schedule for completion in winter 2017, with the Craibstone and Dyce Junctions expected to be finished by autumn 2016, and the Balmedie-Tipperty section expected to be complete by spring 2017.
