To ask the Scottish Executive how many violent incidents took place in the Lothians region in (a) private domestic settings and (b) public open spaces in each of the last 10 years.
Answer
This information is not held centrally.
The police recorded crime statistics collected centrally are based on an aggregate return from each of the eight police forces in Scotland. The aggregate crime figures held by the Scottish Government do not provide any data on where the crime took place.
The available data on the number of non-sexual crimes of violence recorded in each of the local authorities in the Lothians parliamentary region for the last 10 years is shown in the following table:
Non-Sexual Crimes of Violence Recorded in the Lothians Region, 1999-2000 to 2008-09

The Scottish Government is working with the Violence Reduction Unit to address the particular challenges associated with tackling violence in domestic settings, violence which often takes the form of domestic abuse. For example, following the successful pilot of the Caledonian System in Edinburgh, a comprehensive approach to helping the victims of domestic abuse and reducing re-offending, we are investing £2.4 million in rolling out the project in the rest of Scotland.

To ask the Scottish Executive what percentage of people registered unemployed were aged (a) 16 to 24, (b) 25 to 34, (c) 35 to 44, (d) 45 to 54 and (e) over 55 in each of the last five years, broken down by parliamentary constituency.
Answer
The official source for statistics on people who are registered unemployed is the claimant count, which details the number of people who are claiming Jobseeker''s Allowance. I have placed tables in the Scottish Parliament Information Centre (Bib. number 49478) showing, for each parliamentary constituency, what percentage of people in the claimant count were aged (a) 16 to 24, (b) 25 to 34, (c) 35 to 44, (d) 45 to 54 and (e) over 55 for the periods October 2004 to September 2005 to October 2008 to September 2009.

To ask the Scottish Executive what the level of funding was in (a) 1999-00, (b) 2000-01, (c) 2001-02, (d) 2002-03, (e) 2003-04, (f) 2004-05, (g) 2005-06, (h) 2006-07 and (i) 2007-08 for affordable housing projects in the Lothians region, broken down by local authority area.
Answer
The level of Affordable Housing Investment Programme funding spent on affordable housing projects in the Lothians region, broken down by local authority area for the years identified, is as indicated in the following tables. The figures contained in the tables are actual expenditure and will differ from the funding allocated at the commencement of each individual financial year.
Since 2005, the Scottish Government has, in addition to the figures shown, provided funding through the demand-led Low-Cost Initiative for First-Time Buyers (LIFT) scheme for both Open Market and New Supply Shared Equity purchases.

To ask the Scottish Executive how many people were convicted in relation to the 2,720 cases of housebreaking recorded in Edinburgh between April 2008 and March 2009.
Answer
Information on convictions in 2008-09 is not yet available. The data on court proceedings is planned for release in February 2010. Please refer to tables 2 and 4 in the
2007-08 Criminal Proceedings in Scottish Courts statistical bulletin for the latest available data on persons with a charge proved for housebreaking:
http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2009/04/27103325/0.
The 2,720 cases of housebreaking referred to in the question are the number of crimes recorded by the police. The statistics dealing with recorded crime and court proceedings are not directly comparable as a person may be proceeded against for more than one crime involving more than one victim. The crime recorded by the police may be altered in the course of judicial proceedings. Also, a crime may be recorded by the police in one year and court proceedings concluded in a subsequent year. Crimes committed by children aged under 16 are also generally dealt with through the children''s hearings system rather than the courts.

This information is not held centrally.
The Scottish Government does not centrally hold information relating to the age of perpetrators of crime. For information, the majority of charges against under 16''s are dealt with by the Children''s Reporter.

To ask the Scottish Executive what disposals were issued to people convicted in cases involving domestic abuse in the Lothian and Borders police force area in each of the last three years.
Answer
The available information is given in the following table.
Persons Convicted for an Offence with a Domestic Aggravator Recorded1, in Lothian and Borders Police Force Area, 2005-06 to 2007-08
Main Result of Proceedings | 2005-06 | 2006-07 | 2007-08 |
Custody | 46 | 63 | 64 |
Community sentence | 92 | 108 | 109 |

Admonished2 | 125 | 170 | 169 |
Other3 | 12 | 11 | 11 |
All | 553 | 666 | 635 |
Notes:
1. The recording of aggravators has improved with time therefore caution is needed when comparing changes over time. 2005-06 is the first year where it has been considered that the use and recording of domestic abuse aggravator codes from the Scottish Government Court Proceedings Database has been of sufficient coverage to be used.
2. An admonishment is a court disposal given after an offender has been found guilty. The offence is recorded as a conviction and the court warns the offender of the consequences of their future conduct, but no other penalty is imposed.
3. Includes absolute discharge, remit to children''s hearing, caution, no order made.
