To ask the Scottish Executive how many people have been declared bankrupt in each quarter since 2008, also broken down by sheriffdom.
Answer
The Accountant in Bankruptcy (AiB) maintains the Register of Insolvencies in Scotland and publishes statistics on personal insolvencies in Scotland, quarterly on their website and by financial year in their annual report.
The following tables show all bankruptcies by quarter from January 2009 to March 2010 and from April 2010 to March 2011. As all debtor applications are now received by AiB, the numbers of awards made by AiB since April 2008 are collated based upon postcodes of individual cases and allocated to individual sheriff court areas.
Figures for AiB may slightly vary from those previously released following end of year validation of data.
Further information including the annual reports is available on AiB’s website at www.aib.gov.uk.

-
Date lodged: Monday, 13 June 2011
-
Current Status:
Taken in the Chamber on 16 June 2011
To ask the First Minister what the Scottish Government's position is on the findings of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor's report for Scotland 2010.
Answer
Taken in the Chamber on 16 June 2011
- Asked by: Gavin Brown, MSP for Lothian, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party
-
Date lodged: Wednesday, 25 May 2011
-
Current Status:
Answered by Roseanna Cunningham on 10 June 2011
To ask the Scottish Executive how many people were charged for possessing (a) heroin, (b) cocaine, (c) ecstasy, (d) cannabis and (e) amphetamines in the Lothians region in 2010-11, broken down by sheriff court, and what the percentage change was from the previous year.
Answer
The statistics held centrally on crimes recorded by the police do not provide information on the number of charges, nor is it possible to break down the drug offences by the type of drug involved. The figures can be broken down by local authority area but not by sheriff court. Data for 2010-11 will be available in September 2011.
The following tables provide information on crimes of drug possession recorded by the police in the Lothians region, for the two most recent years for which data is available.
