To ask the Scottish Government what action it is taking in the north east to help develop language skills that will bring more international business to the area.
Answer
Our commitment to stronger languages provision in schools is fundamentally linked to our ambitions for business growth throughout Scotland (as underlined in our economic strategy).
We are already starting to see exciting changes in what schools are offering and in what young people expect to be able to learn, to equip them for life and work.
Since 2010 there has been a 8% increase in Higher language entries.
There is a clear potential impact on inward investment: at a recent Aberdeen ‘Business Breakfast’ event, Total UK and Barclays Bank were amongst employers emphasising the value of language skills in their workforces to young people from local high schools.

To ask the Scottish Government whether it considers that patient feedback is an important part of improving NHS service provision and, if so, how it encourages such feedback.
Answer
Yes. The Scottish Government is committed to ensuring a culture of openness and transparency within our NHS, which actively welcomes all forms of feedback as a tool for continuous improvement.
The Patient Rights (Scotland) Act 2011 introduced new patient rights and principles for the delivery of healthcare, including a specific right for people to complain, raise concerns, make comments and give feedback about NHS services. It also placed a duty on the NHS to encourage, monitor, take action and share learning from the views they receive.

To ask the Scottish Government what progress North East Scotland College has made following the recent merger.
Answer
The college has made excellent progress and is a great example of what can be achieved by regional colleges of scale.
For instance, as an early adopter of the Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce programme, the college is at forefront of developing new vocational pathways for school pupils focussed on STEM provision.
Moreover, the college plans to fund a new state of the art centre for oil and gas at the Fraserburgh campus. Investment in Fraserburgh of this scale would simply not have been feasible for the much smaller and financially restricted Banff and Buchan College.
