To ask the Scottish Executive what results have been achieved following the completion of the first year of the drug treatment and testing order pilot in Glasgow and what plans there are for similar pilots.
Answer
The first Drug Treatment and Testing Order in Glasgow was made on 10 February 2000. In the period to the end of February 2001 a further 46 orders were made. To date, there have been 2 successful completions and 7 offenders reported to the court for breach. Of the latter, 3 cases have been dealt with by the court and one of these orders has been revoked. The remaining orders continue in force. An evaluation study of the Glasgow pilot and a second pilot established in Fife last July is currently underway and it is intended that the findings of this study will be published towards the end of the year. A commitment to a third site covering Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire was announced last November. Decisions on further extension will await the outcome of the evaluation.

To ask the Scottish Executive how much money was spent in each of the last two years by it and other publicly funded bodies on the production and publication of newsletters, maga'ines and periodicals concerning social inclusion and social justice.
Answer
The Scottish Executive spent approximately £13,000 in 1999 and £20,000 in 2000 on issues of a Social Inclusion Research Bulletin, GOSSIP (the quarterly newsletter for Social Inclusion Partnerships) and a New Community Schools newsletter.Information on materials produced by the range of publicly funded bodies with an interest in social inclusion and social justice is not held centrally. There are a number of publicly funded organisations which produce newsletters etc. which touch on social inclusion issues without covering them in particular.Scottish Homes started producing a quarterly news publication Action for Social Justice in Scotland in June 2000. Three issues were produced in 2000 at a total cost of £15,435.

To ask the Scottish Executive what the total cost is of its current public meetings exercise involving the First Minister and the Deputy First Minister including the money allocated for market research, hiring facilities and publicity.
Answer
The total cost of a series of "Question Time" events will not be known until it is complete. So far, only one event has taken place, in Inverness. No further events in the series have yet been scheduled. To keep overall costs down, it is expected that these events will be associated with other engagements in the same locality.Care is being taken to ensure that audiences are properly representative of the local population, so that Ministers can receive some valuable and reasonably reliable feedback on their policies. Assembling audiences on this basis is likely to involve a competitive tendering process among suitable contractors. I will write to Mr Harding once the outcome of that process is known.
