To ask the Scottish Government what the Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and Sustainable Growth has done to encourage economic development in Inverclyde since his visit to the area in August 2012.
Answer
The Scottish Government is committed to working with our partners to increase sustainable economic activity across all regions of Scotland, including Inverclyde and we will use all available levers to support opportunities to increase economic activity and growth.
We continue to support Riverside Inverclyde Urban Regeneration Company (URC) and Inverclyde Council to take their plans forward for the benefit of the people and communities across the area, having already committed grant funding for the URC of £1.5 million in 2013-14. We are in discussions with COSLA over core funding for 2014-15 and 2015-16 and have also provided the URC with accelerated funding of £2.4 million for a number of ‘shovel ready’ projects in the Inverclyde area These projects will improve the environment, improve employability in the area, safeguard existing jobs and create jobs in construction.
