Prior to 1 April 1994, the Scottish Arts Council formed part of the Arts Council of Great Britain. Government funding from 1994-95 to 1998-99 is detailed in the table:

To ask the Scottish Executive what funding the Scottish Sports Council and the Scottish Arts Council have received from the National Lottery since the Lottery's inception.
Answer
The proceeds received into the National Lottery Distribution Fund from the inception of the Lottery to 30 June 1999 allocated for distribution by the Scottish Arts Council amounted to £123,342,000. The proceeds allocated for distribution by sportscotland (formerly the Scottish Sports Council) over the same period amounted to £125,039,004.

To ask the Scottish Executive how many teachers have been dismissed in Scotland since 1992 for failing to maintain professional teaching standards, broken down by Local Authority.
Answer
The information requested is not collected centrally.The Government wishes to ensure fair, supportive and effective procedures for dealing with teachers who cannot maintain professional standards. Such procedures should command the support of the profession and local authorities. HM Inspectors of Schools have recently completed a wide ranging study into the application of existing disciplinary procedures and I will be bringing forward proposals for consultation in due course.

To ask the Scottish Executive what was the cost to the Health Education Board Scotland and local health education services within the National Health Service of promoting campaigns to reduce or stop smoking in Scotland for the last period for which figures are available.
Answer
In 1998-99, the total expenditure by the Health Education Board for Scotland on initiatives with an explicit focus on smoking amounted to £808,190. Information on the amount of expenditure specifically on smoking-related programmes by local Health Board health promotion departments is not held centrally.

To ask the Scottish Executive what is the level of administrative charge taken from the grant to partner providers in pre-school education by each local authority in Scotland.
Answer
The level of administrative charge taken from the grant to partner providers in pre-school education by each local authority in Scotland is a contractual matter for each individual authority. However Ministers have recommended for 1999-2000 that within the rate of £1,175 paid to local authorities per part-time place a minimum of £880 per place is paid to their partners.
