To ask the Scottish Executive what childcare provision and assistance is available to its staff.
Answer
The Scottish Executive providesan on-site nursery at its Victoria Quay building with places for 36 children.
In addition, in March ofthis year, the Executive introduced a childcare voucher scheme that isavailable to all of its employees who have eligible children.

To ask the Scottish Executive whether there are waiting lists for places at any of the childcare facilities which it provides for its employees.
Answer
There is a waiting list forthe Scottish Executive nursery at Victoria Quay, which is the only such facilitynow run by Executive. There are currently 35 children on the waiting list.

To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will provide a breakdown of estimated costs in relation to the building of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route in respect of the (a) the construction of junctions, bridges and access roads, (b) compulsory purchase of properties and (c) relocation of the International School of Aberdeen.
Answer
The total scheme costestimate is £295 million to £395 million. The detailed costs of junctions,bridges and access roads have still to be prepared but are included in theoverall estimate. The estimated cost of land purchase including the relocationof the International School of Aberdeen is up to £60 million.

Subject to final agreementIt is proposed that the Scottish Executive will meet 81% of the cost of constructingthe Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route from Charlestown to Blackdog with Aberdeen City Council andAberdeenshire Council contributing 9.5% each. The expressway to Stonehaven andthe maintenance of the entire project will be funded by the Executive.

To ask the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body when information leaflets about the Parliament’s public crèche service will be available for MSPs’ wider constituency use.
Answer
An information leaflet is currently produced by Kidcare and is available from the crèche or the Main Hall of the Scottish Parliament.
The SPCB approved a promotional plan for the crèche on 9 May 9 2006. This includes the production of a promotional flyer. These will be distributedinternally and externally from week commencing 24 July.

To ask the Scottish Executive what steps it will take to alleviate school staffing issues in Aberdeenshire, particularly in relation to teacher recruitment, retention, training and management, and the impact of such issues on the ability of schools to continue to offer classes in all subjects.
Answer
The staffing and management ofindividual schools in Aberdeenshire is a matter for that authority. The ScottishExecutive is committed to a teaching workforce of 53,000 by 2007. To enable localauthorities to achieve this objective additional funding of £18 million in 2006-07and £44 million in 2007-08 has been provided for the employment of teachers. Beforelocal authorities receive funding for 2007-08 they will be required to commit toa number of teachers which will in total achieve our target. I recently decidedthat a further £14.5 million of central resources would also be distributed throughthe National Priorities Action Fund for the employment of additional teachers thisyear.
A national teacher workforceplanning exercise is carried out annually which helps to ensure that sufficientnumbers of teachers are available in all subjects. The latest survey of vacanciesfrom February 2006 shows that only 245 full-time equivalent posts (0.5% of staffcomplement) were vacant for over three months. In Aberdeenshire only 13.9 full-timeequivalent posts (0.6% of staff complement) were vacant for over three months.

To ask the Scottish Executive, further to the answers to questions S2W-25475 and S2W-25476 by Allan Wilson on 12 and 18 May 2006, whether it will confirm that any objections or letters of support which have been received by it in respect of the applications submitted for the Lewis Wind Power and Eisegein wind farm proposals will continue to be regarded as objections or letters of support, regardless of modifications to either proposal, unless the objections or letters of support are explicitly withdrawn or modified by those who originally submitted them.
