To ask the Scottish Executive whether it is satisfied with the level of sports facility provision across Scotland.

It is for local authorities todecide if the level of local sports facility provision is satisfactory in fulfillingtheir statutory responsibility of ensuring that there is adequate provision of sportingfacilities for their residents.

The National Audit of Scotland’s Sports Facilities summary report, published by sportscotland in June 2006 (Bib.number 39798) highlighted the need for significant investment by local authoritiesin our sports facilities. More importantly, however, it called upon local authoritiesto prepare facility strategies to ensure we have the right facilities in the rightplaces. This message is reinforced in Reaching Higher – Building on the successof Sport 21, the revised national sport strategy which I launched on Thursday8 March which sets out the need for quality facilities as one of our national priorities.The Executive, through sportscotland, stands ready to assist local authorities intaking forward their role and responsibilities as set out in the revised strategy.

To ask the Scottish Executive how many people have entered teacher training in each year since 1999, broken down by (a) gender, (b) ethnic background and (c) disability.

The following tables includeentrants to initial teacher training courses at Scottish higher educationinstitutions (HEIs) leading to registration as a school teacher with the GeneralTeaching Council for Scotland. This includes those studying at postgraduate level(PGCE) and first degree level which consists of Bachelor of Education courses andprogrammes leading concurrently to a degree and a teaching qualification. Entrantsto concurrent courses can obtain a degree with or without a teaching qualification.

To ask the Scottish Executive which organisations have held events at Bute House since 1999, also showing how many events were held by each organisation.

Official events held at ButeHouse are always hosted by an Executive minister and organised by the Scottish Executive.Since 1999, very occasionally a charity has held a private event at Bute House,hosted by the First Minister. No charity has done so more than once. All costs associatedwith such events would be met by the charity and as these events are unofficial,no record of them is held by the Scottish Executive.

To ask the Scottish Executive how many careers advisers have been employed in secondary schools in each year since 1999, broken down by local authority area and shown also per head of pupil population.

Careers advisers are not employedby secondary schools, but are deployed there on an equitable basis dependent onschool population size. Each school is allocated 58 days per annum careers advisertime per 1,000 pupils and this is negotiated and agreed with each school througha Partnership Agreement. In addition, each local authority can identify up to 30%of schools in their area whose pupils need most help in making an effective transitionon leaving school. These schools receive an additional time allocation from CareersScotland.

The following table providesdetails of the numbers of careers advisers, in recent years, operating within eachCareers Scotland Local Advisory Board area, and how they reflect local authorityareas. However, these careers advisers also provide services to unemployed youngpeople, college students and adults as well as to the school pupils.

The table also provides detailsof the total number of secondary school pupils (S1-S6) in each Careers ScotlandLocal Advisory Board area, based on the September 2005 School Census. The numberof pupils per careers adviser has then been calculated using the comparable (January2006) data. However the recent increase in number of careers advisers in 2007 willhave decreased the number of pupils per adviser in most areas, since the data shownfor the School year 2005-06.

Careers advisers operate withinmultidisciplinary teams. Schools additionally get support from other Careers Scotlandstaff including specialist programmes to help prevent pupils becoming NEET (notin education, employment or training) and a range of World of Work experiences andenterprise activities within the delivery of a consistent, coherent and progressivecareer education programme.

To ask the Scottish Executive how many careers advisors have undertaken disability awareness training in each year since 1999, broken down by local authority area.

Since 2005 all Careers Scotlandstaff, including careers advisers, have received mandatory training in both GoodPractice in Equal Opportunities and Child Protection. In addition, all new careersadvisers receive three-day mandatory training on Additional Support Needs BasicAwareness.

Also since 2005 the followingspecific training has been taken up by Careers Scotland staff:

There are no records availableon training prior to the creation of Careers Scotland in 2002. Recording of trainingwas kept manually between 2002 and 2005 and we are therefore unable to provide theinformation requested. However, since 2005 electronic records have been kept whichshow training delivered to staff.

Individual staff members haveadditionally requested and received training in the following:

Britishsign language training

Angermanagement.

Staff also have access to theDisability Confident e-learning modules and all Careers Scotland staff havehad awareness raised through Careers Scotland’s Additional Support Needs Handbook.

To ask the Scottish Executive how many installers of micro-renewable energy technologies there are that are accredited, or provisionally accredited, by the Scottish Community and Householder Renewables Initiative to carry out work eligible for household renewable grants, broken down by region and accreditation status.

The following table is basedon information published on the Energy Saving Trust’s website at www.est.org.uk/schri. The table shows the58 accredited installers based in Scotland, broken down by local authority area. In addition thereare 89 installers outside Scotland that operate in Scotland. Of these, 37 have fullaccreditation and 52 have provisional accreditation.
