To ask the Scottish Executive whether girls aged 12 and 13 years can be given the vaccine for protection against the human papilloma virus without the knowledge and permission of their parents.
Answer
It is preferable for a decision to be made as a family. The law allows a young person under the age of 16 to give consent themselves if a suitably qualified health professional deems they are capable of understanding what is being proposed. This is explained to parents in the HPV Questions and Answers booklet which is issued along with the information leaflet and consent form.

To ask the Scottish Executive what financial assistance is available to people wishing to learn British Sign Language.
Answer
The British Sign Language and Linguistic Access Working Group has been working with the Scottish Government and relevant organisations for a number of years to improve access to British Sign Language (BSL) learning.
Most BSL courses take place within the adult learning community or at further education colleges. There are a variety of support mechanisms available for those courses and these are dependent on the individual''s study pattern and SCQF level of the course being studied. Financial support varies from ILA support for SVQ level courses to rest of the United Kingdom (RUK) tuition fee loans and means-tested living cost grants to study degree level courses at HEIs in RUK.

To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will list the private and public treatment centres that combine treatment for mental health problems and addiction to drugs or alcohol.
Answer
Since the member raised this issue at the parliamentary debate on the drugs strategy on 4 June, we have been working with the Scottish Drugs Forum to update the National Directory of Drug Treatment Services, available at
www.scottishdrugservices.com, to include those services which deal with both mental health and drug problems. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
Information on services dealing with both mental health and alcohol problems is not held centrally. However, some information on available services can be found on the Alcohol Focus Scotland website at - www.alcohol-focus-scotland.org.uk/getting_help/where_can_i_get_help.

To ask the Scottish Executive whether all parents who place their children in nursery care will be notified of the grade of service given by the Care Commission.
Answer
The Care Commission places all care service inspection reports and grades on its website. The grading system was introduced on 1 April 2008, with all care services being graded at their first inspection after that date.
There is an expectation that care services will make their inspection reports, which includes the grades, available to care service users and their carers. It is also expected that a copy of the latest inspection report be displayed within the service.
