To ask the Scottish Government what discussions it has had with the UK Government about migration as part of the Brexit negotiations.
Answer
The Scottish Government believes that ending free movement of people will have a negative impact on individuals, families and our wider economy and society as a whole.
We have made our position clear during meetings with Home Office and Department for Exiting the European Union counterparts, at both official and Ministerial level. However, we have had no direct and representative role within the UK’s negotiation with the EU, despite a written agreement to involve us through meetings of the JMC(EN). Our exclusion from any meaningful influence over the UK negotiating position is unacceptable and I am continuing to press the UK Government to agree a more inclusive approach.
