To ask the Scottish Government what steps it is taking to apply the principles of the Just Transition to the agriculture and related land-use sector.
Answer
We need to ensure that our transition to a low carbon economy is just. That is why we agreed to embed just transition principles into our climate legislation last year and established the independent Just Transition Commission to provide government with practical recommendations on how we might achieve this.
The Commission includes representation from the farming sector, and held evidence sessions, including one on agriculture and land use. It published an interim report last month which we are currently considering.

To ask the Scottish Government what steps it is taking to improve climate literacy in (a) the agricultural sector and (b) rural areas.
Answer
The Scottish Government is committed to raising awareness within both our agricultural and wider rural communities.
We support the dissemination of high quality information and advice through the likes of the Farm Advisory Services, Farming For a Better Climate, the Monitor Farm Network and the Young Farming Climate Champions.
The Scottish Government also held a series of workshops across Scotland last year as part of the Big Climate Conversation and we are in the process of establishing a Citizens’ Assembly, allowing us to engage with all areas of society including rural areas.
