What about your expenses? I have looked through those listed in the auditor’s report. The expenses are all for first-class-only travel and top hotels. The auditor took significant umbrage at the fact that they did not meet any of the university’s outlined policies. You did not care about any of that; it just had to be the best for you, wherever you were going.

I have two more questions. The first returns to what other members have asked you. You have said that you are taking responsibility and have given a heartfelt apology. Would it not be an act of recognition of the role that you played in creating the situation that the University of Dundee now finds itself in if you paid back that £150,000? I do not know how many staff members’ jobs would be saved by your doing so, but do you recognise that it could be really important for you to send a message to the students and staff who are left at the University of Dundee that you understand your role in the saga?

In all my time in the Parliament, I have never heard a statement from a Government minister so disconnected from the reality that our constituents, especially young people, face. The minister should reflect on that and should potentially withdraw his statement, because it does not mention young people transitioning into adult services. How many young people are not starting treatment prior to transitioning to adult services? He has not mentioned that. How many families have been forced to seek diagnosis and treatment in the private sector, as Alex Cole-Hamilton said, because of failures of the minister’s Government?

I associate myself with the comments of Ben Macpherson. The way in which the council has handled the issue has been totally unacceptable. Parents and families are rightly angry that they have been left in the dark. We are now heading into the summer holidays, and children with severe medical complex needs, disabilities or life-limiting conditions should have the right to access holiday hub provision. There are often few opportunities for them to participate otherwise. What national guidance is the Government developing with councils on this issue? I did not hear that in the cabinet secretary’s answer. Does she recognise that the City of Edinburgh Council is finding it difficult as the lowest-funded council in Scotland?

It suggests to me that there had been concerns about the university’s finances in previous years.

It is not meant to be. I am only wondering what your relationship is with the organisation, as you were reporting to it.

In your time at the university, were you aware of the duty that you had to report to the Funding Council? Had you made sure that you were acutely aware of what your duties were?

I assume that that is the same for the other witnesses.
On the potential financial health checks, had any of you expressed concern among yourselves about organisations that should have been coming to the university to look at that and whether they had been directly involved? There seems to have been financial mismanagement throughout the organisation, as shown in the Gillies report and the evidence that we have received.

Were you aware of the reporting mechanisms that the university should have had and that the court should also have been aware of?

The SFC is meant to be doing that financial health check for the university sector, so it is concerning that it is not getting that information; some of the relationships are concerning as well.
