My questions follow on from what we have already heard with regard to data and diversity. Do the witnesses have views on how we collect that data? We have already heard that the data is patchy. What are your views on making the recording of data mandatory at the nomination stage? Ethan touched on that earlier, so I will bring him back in.

Our questions have concentrated on political parties, but 14 per cent of councillors across Scotland are independents. There has been a tradition of independent candidates, especially in the Highlands and Islands. Who is responsible for encouraging more diversity in councils that have independent members? The committee has heard specifically that the Western Isles Council is all male.

Thank you. I do not see anyone else who wants to come in on that.

Good morning to the panel, and thank you for joining us today. Given the limited time, I will ask you what are almost two double questions. First, what support did you receive from the political party that you stood for at the election? Secondly, what support have you received from the council to do the job as a councillor, or from any other external bodies?

Good morning. I have a specific question. Has advocacy for individuals been considered, especially given that those individuals might need support from advocacy to make the changes?

Thank you. From the scoping around that, do you know how many applications local authorities are likely to receive and how much additional work that might present to them?

Do you accept that that goes against the Government’s approach to date, which has looked at certainty and wider stakeholder engagement on taxation? Is the approach purely due to the circumstances of the pandemic or is it a direction of travel that ministers are considering?

Good morning to the minister and the panel. I have a couple of questions with regard to the principles with which the Government has approached taxation. Is it appropriate to alter the basis of taxation retrospectively, as the order that is before us will do?

Part of the discussion that we had on last Monday’s visit to Social Security Scotland was about groups that might find it difficult to access or fill out forms, or that have technology challenges. On the people who are not applying, what work has been done on identifying whether those are the key reasons for people not wanting to fill out huge numbers of forms? Are there also language or reading barriers?
