Local Government, Housing and Planning Committee 5 March 2024

Subordinate Legislation

Meeting date: 5 March 2024

Marie McNair

I declare an interest, in that I was a councillor in West Dunbartonshire Council until 2022.

Good morning, minister and officials. The consultation in December included other proposals that are not being taken forward at this time, and COSLA has concerns that the Government still intends to do further work on those. What are the Scottish Government’s plans on those proposals and on any wider review of capital finance accounting?

You could perhaps follow up with a written submission, Mr O’Neill.

Can you explain why the 28-day period should be longer and what the advantages and disadvantages are of extending that?

Good morning, panel. I really appreciate your time this morning. I will focus on homelessness services. What is your experience of the impact on statutory homelessness services? Are the issues dependent on the type of refugee status a person and/or family can have?

Maybe Graham O’Neill could start.

Meeting of the Parliament

General Question Time

Meeting date: 29 February 2024

Marie McNair

A constituent of mine currently receives real-hair wigs but, given the advancements in acrylic wigs, she would like to try one of those instead. She has advised me that NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has said that, if she makes that decision, she would not be able to move back to a real-hair wig prescription should she wish to do so. That seems a bit harsh. Can the minister confirm whether there are any plans to review that approach to allow more flexibility in moving between the two wig prescriptions?

To ask the Scottish Government what work has been done to improve accessibility to prescription wig provision for those affected by hair loss. (S6O-03142)

I am an MSP for the Clydebank and Milngavie constituency.

Just before I do so, I declare an interest as a former councillor, up until 2022. That will be applicable to discussions later in the agenda.

In your experience, how well are the Scottish Government and those responsible for working to achieve the housing to 2040 aims including local communities, tenants and residents in delivery plans? Given that Stephen Connor talked earlier about the importance of tenants being at the table, he might be best placed to kick off responses. Secondly, are outcomes improving for communities, tenants and residents?
