You have actually answered my second question as well. Thank you very much for that.

Would anyone like to add anything? My next question was going to be—

Meeting of the Parliament

Climate Change Committee Scotland Report

Meeting date: 18 April 2024

Jackie Dunbar

The Government’s plans and ambitions require sufficient resource to be realised. Our climate targets and how we go about realising them cannot be discussed or considered in isolation from the wider UK context. What will the cabinet secretary do to reiterate to the UK Government that it must reverse the swingeing cuts that it has imposed on Scotland in order for us to fully realise our ambitions for climate and nature?

To ask the Scottish Government how its work on wildlife management can help address the reported threats to nature and biodiversity restoration posed by American mink. (S6O-03295)

Meeting date: 28 March 2024

I thank the witnesses for coming along. I would like to ask a couple of questions about disqualification orders. In your view, would such orders be enough to deter unacceptable behaviour, or should any other steps be taken to ensure that there is a safe environment for everyone—not just politicians—during political debate?

If I am reading the bill right, it looks as though someone could stand as a candidate in a Scottish Parliament election even if they had a disqualification order, but they would not be able to take their seat. Do you have a view on that? What would be the electoral consequence of someone being returned but being unable to take their seat?

So, what if the bill is not strengthened and someone is elected to a seat, having been allowed to put their name forward, but they cannot take it up, because of a disqualification order? What would the consequences be?

I know that councillors have to go through the protecting vulnerable groups process at the beginning of their terms. That is why I asked the question. A councillor might have their PVG, but what if they are put on the sex offenders register after that?
