Meeting of the Parliament

First Minister’s Question Time

Meeting date: 20 June 2024

Jackie Dunbar

I fully support the First Minister’s stance regarding nuclear power. Has any MSP ever written to the Scottish Government to propose or support the building of nuclear power stations in their communities in areas that they represent?

Meeting of the Parliament

Provisional Outturn 2023-24

Meeting date: 20 June 2024

Jackie Dunbar

Given the delays in the UK Government providing clarity on consequentials, can the minister provide further information regarding the impact that that has had on planning for the Scottish Government? Can he advise what steps the next UK Government could take to avoid the same problems occurring in the future?

Meeting of the Parliament

Greenhouse Gas Emissions Statistics 2022

Meeting date: 19 June 2024

Jackie Dunbar

We know that restoring damaged peatland is a cost-effective way to reduce carbon emissions in Scotland. Earlier this month, we celebrated over 10,000 hectares of damaged peatland restoration. However, although the UK Government continues to benefit from Scotland’s peatland and forestry potential, the weight of that work still falls on Scotland. Does the cabinet secretary agree that it is only right and fair that the UK Government should contribute towards a fair funding agreement in that area?

Meeting date: 18 June 2024

Jackie Dunbar

Meeting date: 18 June 2024

Jackie Dunbar

I do not mean to put words in your mouth, and you will correct me if I am wrong, but you do not see there being an issue in principle with small diversifications, depending on what they are, but you would have an issue with big diversifications.

Land Reform (Scotland) Bill: Stage 1

Jackie Dunbar

As long as it does not harm the land at the end of the day, of course.

Land Reform (Scotland) Bill: Stage 1

Meeting date: 18 June 2024

I have two quick questions, as I notice that the time is getting past us. What are your views on the provisions for compensation payments when improvements have been made and the tenancy comes to an end? Are they clear enough? If not, how can they be improved?

Land Reform (Scotland) Bill: Stage 1

Meeting date: 18 June 2024

Jackie Dunbar

Okay. If a tenant farmer is making improvements to the land before a tenancy ends, should that be considered with the rent?

Meeting date: 18 June 2024

Jackie Dunbar

Thank you.

Land Reform (Scotland) Bill: Stage 1

My second question is about the proposals on diversification and their operation. Are they sufficiently clear?
