Point of Order

Paul Martin (Glasgow Provan) (Lab)

This afternoon, the First Minister, as he has done before, dismissed reports of patients in national health service hospitals having to sleep without blankets as being scare stories and untrue. Then he met 92-year-old Helen Macbeth and 65-year-old Jack Barr, who both had to sleep without blankets during recent stays in hospital. They confirmed that their stories are true and, indeed, there are many more.

The First Minister’s press spokesperson has confirmed that the First Minister did not apologise to Helen and Jack for what he said about them, but I ask the First Minister whether he will come back to the chamber and take the opportunity to apologise to members for misleading Parliament during First Minister’s question time today.

The Presiding Officer (Tricia Marwick)

As I have noted many times before, members are responsible for what they say during proceedings. An allegation that a minister or the First Minister has misled Parliament is a matter for the Scottish ministerial code. Therefore, I refer Paul Martin to that code and suggest that he take up the matter directly with the First Minister.
