On a point of order, Presiding Officer. Under section 7 of the MSP code of conduct, I must apologise to members and amend the Official Report. In a speech to this Parliament, I said:
“I do not think that those in charge at Westminster have a clue.”—[Official Report, 28 May 2026; c 41.]
Following confirmation from the Prime Minister that the rules governing the timing of a Scottish referendum will mirror those of an Irish border poll, I must correct the statement as follows—
I do not think that this is a point of order; I think that this is you correcting the record. That is not a point of order, so please sit down.
On a point of order, Presiding Officer. After the ministerial statement earlier today on the bluetongue virus, Jamie Langan asked the minister a question. Before he could finish that question, the minister bounced up and interrupted it. Is it in order for ministers to behave in that way in the chamber?
Ministers should express the same courtesy to members as members should express to ministers and, indeed, across the chamber. If someone asks a question, it is important that ministers listen to it, especially if it is directed to them.
I should also say that after members have asked a question and the minister is responding to it, the individual who has asked the question should not heckle the minister who is answering it.
