Subordinate Legislation
Disability Discrimination (Public Authorities) (Statutory Duties) (Scotland) Regulations 2005 (SSI 2005/565)
Good morning and welcome to the 17th meeting in 2005 of the Equal Opportunities Committee. I remind all those present that mobile phones should be turned off. We have apologies from Frances Curran, Jamie McGrigor and John Swinburne, who has to attend a funeral.
Agenda item 1 is subordinate legislation. The Disability Discrimination (Public Authorities) (Statutory Duties) (Scotland) Regulations 2005 come into force on 5 December and will remain in force unless they are annulled by the Parliament within 40 days of their being laid. No motion to annul the regulations has been lodged.
The regulations require public authorities to set out how they intend to comply with the general duty to promote equality of opportunity for disabled people, which was introduced by section 49(A) of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, by the time that the duty comes into force in December 2006.
Are members content with the regulations and for us to report to the Parliament that the committee has no recommendation to make?
Members indicated agreement.
