Good morning and welcome to the first meeting of the Equal Opportunities Committee. This committee will have a wide range of subjects and issues to debate over the months and years ahead. I am sure that many people who supported us and who sent us to the Scottish Parliament will be interested to see how we exercise our discretion in the debates that we will have.

My position today is not one that I cherish or relish—I am the oldest member, and therefore I am required to take the chair in order to set the committee in motion.
