Religion and Belief

Agenda item 5 is consideration of our approach to our proposed taking-stock exercise on religion and belief. At the end of the paper are two recommended actions based on the fact that the Government has already undertaken a similar exercise. One option is to defer action until the Scottish Government has developed its strategic framework, and the other is to invite the Minister for Community Safety to brief the committee on the Government's work.

I suggest that we get the minister in, so that we can explore the Scottish Government's decision to pre-empt, as it were, something that was laid out in this committee's work programme by undertaking a similar exercise. In the light of that evidence, we can then decide whether it is appropriate to defer what we had originally intended to do.
