Scottish Parliament Enterprise and Lifelong Learning Committee Wednesday 3 May 2000 (Morning)

[The Convener opened the meeting at 10:05]

The Convener (Mr John Swinney):

Good morning. I bring this meeting of the Enterprise and Lifelong Learning Committee to order. Before we consider item 1, I want to raise a number of points with members.

First, I understand that the damage caused by mobile phones—even on silent mode—and pagers to the sound system is graver in this building than elsewhere. I encourage members to switch off their phones and to put their pagers on silent mode.

Secondly, does the committee agree to take item 4, when we will agree our final report on the local economic development inquiry, in private?

Members indicated agreement.

The Convener:

Thirdly, the clerks have distributed, or are in the process of distributing, two sets of papers for the meeting of the committee on Friday, when we will begin our consideration of the Education and Training (Scotland) Bill, which has now been published. The committee will meet at 9.30 am on Friday morning in committee room 1.
