Decision on Taking Business in Private

The Deputy Convener (Ben Macpherson)

Good morning, and welcome to the ninth meeting in 2026 of the Criminal Justice Committee. We have received no apologies for the meeting, but, unfortunately, the convener sends his apologies for the time being due to delays on the train line. David Linden will be with us as quickly as he can. In the meantime, as deputy convener, I have taken the chair.

Our first item of business is a decision on whether to take item 4 in private. Members agreed on 16 September that work programme items would be taken in private; accordingly, item 5 will be taken in private under that decision. Does the committee agree that item 4 should also be taken in private?

Members indicated agreement.

We are aware of a delay in one of our witnesses arriving for agenda item 2, which is the round-table discussion, so I have decided to take item 3 ahead of item 2. Do committee colleagues agree with that?

Members indicated agreement.

Thank you. I apologise to the witnesses who are here; we will commence as quickly as we can, but we will first take what was previously proposed as item 3.
