Scottish Parliament Transport and the Environment Committee Wednesday 30 June 1999 (Afternoon)
[The Oldest Member of the Committee opened the meeting at 12:02]
I apologise for the late start. We were going to wait for Des McNulty, but he might be engaged on important business elsewhere.
First, I have to read the fire action notice. If members hear the fire alarm, they should make their way out of the building, following the green running person fire evacuation signs. In future, members should refer to copies of the notice, which will be displayed.
My name is Robin Harper and I am from the Scottish Green party. I am honoured and delighted to be the oldest member of the committee. It is only by virtue of my great age that I am sitting here to welcome the committee and its guests to the first meeting of the Transport and the Environment Committee of the Scottish Parliament.
I have to ask members to ensure that they have their briefing packs. I shall preside over only two items of business before demitting office to Andy Kerr: the declaration of members' interests and the committee's choice of convener.
