Equal Opportunities

The Convener:

Agenda item 3 concerns mainstreaming equal opportunities in committees. We have been asked to support research that is being done on behalf of the Equal Opportunities Committee and to nominate at least one member to attend a workshop on mainstreaming equal opportunities in parliamentary committees.

Are there any comments on the research proposal? Are members happy with the approach that is being adopted?

Members indicated agreement.

In that case, I am looking for a willing volunteer to be our representative on the sounding board.

It has become traditional for you to volunteer, convener.

It is a tradition that I do not wish to continue.

Robin Harper:

I am not sure whether I have a space in my diary, but I have been in constant contact with the forum over the past two years and it is something that I would be interested in doing. I am not pushing myself ahead of anyone else who might want to do it.

Thank you, Robin. We shall take up that offer. If there is a problem with the date, perhaps you can get back to Shelagh McKinlay and we can seek an alternative.

As the request is to nominate at least one member, could we agree to permit any other member of the committee who subsequently expresses an interest to attend?

Yes. That makes good sense. Do we agree to proceed on that basis?

Members indicated agreement.

Meeting continued in private until 12:48.
