Agenda item 3 is the appointment of a committee member to serve as the committee’s European Union reporter, whose role will be to act as a champion for EU matters in the committee. I expect that members have read their committee papers, which contain a description of the role.
Has anyone expressed an interest in being the reporter? I would be pleased to nominate them.
No one has directly expressed an interest to me, but the role is important. If no one wants to make a nomination, can someone volunteer?
Is any member of this committee also a member of the European and External Relations Committee?
No, I do not think so.
Such a member would have been the ideal person to be our EU reporter.
They would have been.
Is there a timescale within which we have to make an appointment? One or two members of the committee might consider volunteering, but they might also like to consider the time commitment that would be involved. Does an appointment have to be made during this meeting?
Given that we do not have a nomination, do members agree that we should defer the matter until next week’s meeting?
As previously agreed, we will take item 4, under which we will consider our work programme, in private.
