Scottish Parliament Local Government Committee Tuesday 11 September 2001 (Afternoon)

Okay, comrades, we will start. Neither Iain Smith nor Michael McMahon has sent apologies, so I am sure that they will be here in a minute or two. I formally welcome Tricia Marwick and Sandra White to the committee. This is their first meeting as members of the committee, although Tricia attended last week's meeting. I hope that they will find the committee informative and not too onerous—I am sure that it will not be.

We have a relatively light agenda today, although I have said that before and the meeting has not worked out like that. We do not normally have such an agenda. I have tried hard to put the committee on to fortnightly meetings, but that will not be possible in the foreseeable future in this parliamentary term or the next. However, that shows how important the committee is.
