Scottish Parliament Local Government and Transport Committee Tuesday 10 June 2003 (Afternoon)
[The Oldest Committee Member opened the meeting at 14:15]
I am in the chair as the oldest committee member. That is a double-edged sword: it is a great honour to be in the chair, but being the oldest reminds me of mortality.
I welcome all members of the committee to the first meeting of the Local Government and Transport Committee in the second session of the Scottish Parliament. I am certainly looking forward to working with everybody on what is one of the major committees of the Parliament. I also welcome members of the press and public. I ask that all pagers and phones be switched off. Every convener is annoyed if they are not.
