I convene the 37th meeting in 2002 of the Justice 1 Committee. I remind members to switch off their mobile phones and pagers. I had better do that myself. I have received apologies from Lord James Douglas-Hamilton.
Item 8 is consideration of witness expenses. Again following our usual practice, I ask that we discuss that in private, as it concerns expenses for individual witnesses, which it is not appropriate to discuss in public. Does the committee agree to take that item in private?
Are members also prepared to consider our draft report on the Mental Health (Scotland) Bill in private at future meetings, as is the usual practice when we are considering draft reports?
I ask that members of the public leave for the time being.
Meeting continued in private.
